Understanding GPA

GPA stands for Grade-Point Average.

Generally, marks are calculated as follows:

  A  =  86 - 100%                    B   =  73 - 85%                      C+ =  67 - 72%

  C  =   60 - 66%                      C-  =  50 - 59%                     I   =   0 - 49%

Your G.P.A. is calculated using a 4 point system:

         A = 4.0        B = 3.0         C+ = 2.5         C = 2.0         C- = 1.0         I = 0        F = 0

To determine your G.P.A.:

1. Assign each letter grade its numerical value.

2. Total the numerical values.

3. Divide the total by the number of letter grades you have received.

Example:

  Subject                                  Letter Grade                        Grade Point

  Math                                      B                                              3.0

  P.E.                                          C+                                            2.5

  French                                   B                                              3.0

  Science                                 C                                              2.0

                                                                       Total                  10.5   G.P.A. = 10.5 = 2.625

                                                                                                                                       4
